The ex-foreign secretary to the British former Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, Liz Truss has emerged as the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. The announcement was made by the Conservative Party on Monday, as she awaits confirmation. Her emergence is coming weeks after former Prime Minister, Boris Johnson resigned his position.
It is reported by dailyreport that Truss defeated her closest rival, Rishi Sunak in an leadership election only 180,000 dues-paying members of the ruling party were allowed to vote.
She has been scheduled to meet Queen Elizabeth II to be formally named as prime minister on Tuesday.
Speaking after her victory, Truss said it was an “honor” to be elected and paid tribute to her “friend” Boris Johnson, the prime minister she will be succeeding.
She will become UK’s fourth prime minister since 2016 and the country’s third female premier ever.
