SP, Daniel Amah Bags Presidential Integrity Award for Rejecting $200K Bribe

His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari has granted the revered 2022 Public Service Integrity Award to a Superintendent of Police, SP Daniel Itse Amah, for rejecting Two Hundred Thousand Dollars ($200,000.00) bribe in an alleged case of armed robbery in Kano. The prestigious award was presented to the officer at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on October 4, 2022.

SP Daniel Amah is the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Nasarawa Division of Kano State Police Command. The award was necessitated by his outstanding behaviour and show of integrity in the said case which prompted the decision to confer same on Amah by the recommendation of the chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC), Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, in a letter with reference number: ICPC/HC/PE/PSIA/011/ V /88, dated September 13, 2022.

The Commission thus enjoined the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba Alkali, to introduce CSP Amah as the special guest at the opening ceremony of the 4th National Summit on Diminishing Corruption in the Public Service during which President Buhari would recognise the officer.

It is pertinent to note that the police boss had in a letter of commendation applauded SP Amah for exhibiting “sound professionalism”, leading to the arrest of one Ali Zaki, the Kano-based legal practitioner, and some police officers.

In a press statement by the Command Spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa said that “On behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, the Command’s Acting Commissioner of Police presented a commendation letter to SP Daniel Amah, for maintaining outstanding excellent work ethics, uncommon focus and dedication to duty, and exhibiting sound professionalism leading to the arrest and prosecution of one Ali Zaki and some police officers in a case of an armed robbery involving the sum of three hundred and twenty million, five hundred thousand naira only, as well as rejecting the sum of $200,000 offered to him as a bribe.”

The IGP while congratulating the officer for making the Force proud with such exceptional character and display of professionalism that has earned him with a presidential award described SP Amah as a seasoned police officer with an exemplary character worthy of emulation.
